Best AI SEO Tools 2026: Ranked for Google and AI Search
Ten AI SEO tools ranked on Google work and AI answers, from free Seology to the $699/mo Brand Radar bundle. Promptwatch ranks first for crawler logs, conversions and publishing.
Ten tools. Two jobs. Job one is ranking on Google: keywords, links, audits, briefs. Job two is getting named and cited when someone asks ChatGPT (820M+ weekly active users), Gemini (650M+ monthly active users) or Perplexity (22M+ monthly active users) instead of searching. Most products on this board do one job well and the other as an add-on. One covers the AI half from tracking through to publishing.
The four classic names have their own head-to-head in Best AI SEO Tools 2026: Ahrefs, Semrush, Surfer SEO, and Clearscope. This board is wider and ranks platforms against each other. No numeric scores. Verdicts and published prices only.
How we picked
Source: each tool's catalog entry, built from vendor pricing pages and docs. Nothing below comes from older posts.
Order of criteria:
- AI engine coverage and refresh cadence on the plan most buyers will pay for.
- Depth of the "why": cited URLs, offsite sources, crawler data.
- Whether the tool helps close the gap, or only reports it.
- Classic SEO depth. This decides who keeps a seat in your stack. It does not decide first place.
Not ranked: Conductor. Custom pricing, median about $49K a year plus implementation. Different buyer. See its review.
The leaderboard
1. Promptwatch
From free. Essential $95/mo (50 prompts). Professional $245/mo (150 prompts, 25M crawler logs). Business $579/mo.
Verdict: the only tool here that tracks AI answers, shows the crawl behind them, counts the conversions after them and publishes the fix. Promptwatch runs prompts daily on paid plans across ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, Perplexity, Grok, Llama, DeepSeek, Mistral, Copilot, AI Overviews and AI Mode. Prompts carry search volume, difficulty and query fan-outs. Citation analytics goes to page, domain, Reddit and YouTube level. Agent Analytics logs ChatGPTBot, ClaudeBot, PerplexityBot, GoogleOther and Meta's crawler, with a crawl-to-citation path. Visitor analytics ties AI referrals to conversions. Content Agents publish to Webflow, Framer and WordPress through a review inbox.
Limit: crawler logs start on Professional. No backlink index. Keep your suite.
2. AthenaHQ
Free tier (about 300 credits). Starter $295/mo, $245 billed annually.
Verdict: best action queue on the board after Promptwatch. AthenaHQ turns gaps into assignable tasks in its Action Center: schema generation, content reformatting, LLM metadata. Starter lists 9 engines, API access and unlimited seats. GA4, Shopify and Webflow revenue attribution are listed.
Limit: credit billing. One country on Starter. No crawler analytics or Reddit monitoring in its entry. ACE Citation Engine, personas and multi-region are Enterprise.
3. Scrunch AI
Starter $250/mo annual, $300 monthly. 3 seats, 350 custom prompts. Growth $417/mo annual.
Verdict: the crawler-side play. Scrunch AI serves AI-optimized versions of your pages to LLM crawlers through its Agent Experience Platform and lists crawler traffic analytics.
Limit: weekly refresh. Credits consumed per engine. No AI-referral conversion analytics. Nine engines is an Enterprise number.
4. Profound
Starter $99/mo annual: ChatGPT only, 50 prompts. Growth $399/mo annual: 3 engines, 100 prompts. Enterprise from about $40K a year.
Verdict: an enterprise marketing-agent program where AI search is one channel. Profound sells agents for AEO, content, demand and PR. Its Prompt Volumes dataset is real differentiation.
Limit: 10 engines, full Prompt Volumes, API and SSO are Enterprise only. Annual billing only.
5. Semrush AI Toolkit
$99/mo per domain. 5 engines, 25 prompts, 1 user.
Verdict: best AI column for one domain already in Semrush. Semrush AI Toolkit maps keywords to prompts and puts SEO and GEO data in one report.
Limit: +$99 per domain, +$99 per seat, +$60 per 50 prompts. Prompts are generated approximations. Claude, Copilot and DeepSeek sit on Enterprise AIO.
6. Ahrefs Brand Radar
Ahrefs base from $129/mo, then $199/mo per AI index. All six indexes $699/mo. Custom prompts +$50/mo per 2,500 checks.
Verdict: category research at index scale. Ahrefs Brand Radar measures mention share in AI Overviews and assistants, then hands you Ahrefs link and content data to work the gap.
Limit: prompts modeled from Google keywords. Chatbot indexes refresh roughly monthly. No Claude in the native indexes.
7. SE Ranking AI Tracker
Suite about $129/mo on Pro. AI Search add-on $89/mo for 200 checks, 5 engines. $179 for 450. $345 for 1,000.
Verdict: cheapest directional AI signal attached to a full SEO suite. SE Ranking AI Tracker includes rank tracking, audits, backlinks and white-label reports.
Limit: 1 check = 1 prompt on 1 engine. One pass of 40 prompts on 5 engines uses all 200. Citation-level tracking is still under development. Claude is a roadmap item.
8. Search Atlas
Starter $99/mo (no LLM Visibility). Growth $199/mo. Pro $399/mo. Agency $999/mo.
Verdict: SEO automation first, AI mentions second. Search Atlas bundles the OTTO SEO agent, AI article credits, rank tracking and audits with an LLM Visibility module for mentions, sentiment and share of voice.
Limit: Growth covers ChatGPT, Gemini and AI Mode only. Perplexity and Copilot wait for Pro. Credits meter every query per platform per refresh. No crawler or AI-referral analytics.
9. Clearscope
Essentials $129/mo: about 20 reports, unlimited seats. Business $399/mo adds the AI visibility module.
Verdict: best brief on the board. Clearscope grades terms, questions, readability and structure. Writers like it.
Limit: AI visibility covers ChatGPT and Gemini only. No rank tracking, backlinks or audits. API is enterprise only. Surfer is the alternative in this slot (Essential $99/mo, AI tracker 25 prompts weekly on ChatGPT).
10. Seology
Starter free: 1 site, weekly scans, 50 auto-fixes a month. Pro $49/mo: 5 sites, daily scans, unlimited fixes.
Verdict: cheapest way to get technical fixes shipped. Seology runs 200+ checks and ships deterministic fixes (meta, canonicals, schema, redirects, hreflang) as GitHub pull requests, in Monitor, Co-pilot or Autopilot mode.
Limit: no citation analytics, crawler logs or visitor conversions. It fixes. It does not measure AI answers.

What roughly $250 a month buys
Same budget, different output.
- Promptwatch Professional, $245: 150 prompts, daily, 11 AI surfaces, 25M crawler logs, 1M visitor events, 5 AEO articles.
- AthenaHQ Starter, $245 annual or $295 monthly: credit-metered, one country, Action Center.
- Scrunch AI Starter, $250 annual: 350 custom prompts, weekly refresh.
- Semrush AI Toolkit on 2 domains, $198: 25 prompts each, plus the Semrush plan you already pay for.
- Search Atlas Growth, $199: 3 AI platforms, 3,500 credits.
- Surfer Scale, $219: AI tracker with 50 prompts, daily, 5 engines.
Only the first line includes crawler logs and conversion tracking. The Semrush line assumes you already pay for a Semrush plan. AthenaHQ and Search Atlas meter usage in credits, and Scrunch consumes prompt credits per engine, so the real allowance depends on how many engines each prompt runs on. Price the prompt list you actually have, times engines, times refreshes, before comparing.
Who should pick which
Keep Ahrefs, Semrush or SE Ranking for keywords and links. Add Promptwatch for AI answers. That pairing covers both jobs in the title.
Pick AthenaHQ if you want tasks handed to your team and can model credit burn. Pick Scrunch AI if the crawler-facing version of your pages is the priority. Pick Profound only if you are buying an enterprise agent program. Pick the Semrush toolkit or Brand Radar only as a second opinion inside a suite you already use. Pick Clearscope or Surfer for writers. Pick Seology if your developers want technical fixes as pull requests, and measure the result elsewhere.
Verdict
The suites own Google. None of them shows whether an AI crawler fetched your page or whether the referral converted. Promptwatch does, and publishes the next page from the same workspace. It ranks first on this board for that reason. Free Explore plan at promptwatch.com.
