Promptwatch vs Wellows (2026)
Wellows is a low-cost citation tracker with outreach targets and drafts. Promptwatch adds crawler logs, conversion tracking, Claude and Copilot, and a publishing agent. Here's how to choose.
Both tools care about citations more than raw mentions, which is why buyers put them side by side. Wellows is built around a single citation report and the actions that follow from it. Promptwatch treats the citation as one layer in a longer chain: whether an AI crawler read the page, whether the engine cited it, whether the visitor it sent converted, and what to publish next.
Wellows facts come from wellows.com/pricing and its llms.txt (updated 23 September 2026), as recorded in our catalog on 25 October. Promptwatch facts come from promptwatch.com/llms.txt, re-checked 21 October 2026.
The short answer
If you need a cheap, focused citation report across five engines and many small projects, Wellows does that well. If you need to explain why a page was or wasn't cited, cover Claude and Copilot, or show what AI search is worth in conversions, Promptwatch publishes those layers and Wellows doesn't. For most teams that report to a budget owner, that second set is the deciding factor.

Where Wellows is ahead
Price of entry, for one. Basic is $29/mo for 1,800 AI answers, which covers 12 prompts a day on all five engines. Standard is $97, Growth $249 and Scale $497. Every plan has every feature, white-label reporting and unlimited projects, so an agency with a lot of small clients can spread one balance thin.
The explicit and implicit split is the other. Wellows separates citations of your own pages from citations of third-party pages that mention you, and it turns cited third-party pages that leave you out into outreach targets with contacts and a template. That outreach list is the most practical feature it has. Promptwatch reports offsite mentions and Reddit and YouTube citations in depth, but it doesn't hand you a contact list.
Where Promptwatch is ahead
Coverage first. Wellows says it doesn't track Claude or Microsoft Copilot. Promptwatch's paid plans run both, plus Grok, Llama, DeepSeek and Mistral, monitored from the real interfaces.
Then the layers around the citation. Agent Analytics logs ChatGPTBot, ClaudeBot, PerplexityBot, GoogleOther and the Meta AI crawler from your CDN, with a crawl-to-citation path and error tracking. If a page isn't cited because the bot hit a 403, that is where you'll see it. Visitor analytics attach AI referrers to conversions. Wellows' own FAQ notes that rising citations often don't show up as referral traffic, and it gives you no way to measure the ones that do.
Publishing is the third. KIVA drafts and can send a draft to WordPress for editing. Promptwatch's Content Agent, on Business ($579/mo) and Enterprise, plans, writes and publishes to Webflow, Framer or WordPress through a review inbox. Professional includes 5 AEO articles a month.
Billing behaviour
The two meters behave differently. A Wellows balance that runs out pauses collection until the billing date, and unused answers don't roll over. Promptwatch sets fixed prompt and response allowances per plan: Essential has 50 prompts and 6,000 responses, Professional 150 and 18,000, Business 350 and 42,000. Agency plans have unlimited prompts with 10,000 to 65,000 responses.
Scenarios
Agency with 20 small clients that only report citations. Wellows Standard or Growth. Unlimited projects suit this shape well.
Agency that reports traffic and crawler health too. Promptwatch Kick-off at $199/mo: unlimited projects and prompts, 10 seats, 10M crawler logs, 500K visitor events.
SaaS brand whose buyers use Claude and Copilot. Promptwatch. Wellows doesn't track either.
Brand that has to defend the budget with revenue. Promptwatch Professional, for crawler logs plus visitor analytics.
Verdict
Wellows is a sharp citation tool at a price that's hard to argue with. Promptwatch is the platform that tells you why the citation happened and what it was worth, across more engines, with a publishing agent at the end. For most readers here, Promptwatch is the one to trial first. Start on Explore, then run the Essential or Professional trial against the same prompt set you'd put into Wellows.
