Promptwatch vs Rankability (2026): which one should an agency buy?
Rankability is a content-led agency SEO workspace with AI answer tracking. Promptwatch is an AI visibility platform with crawler logs, conversion attribution and prompt research. Where each wins, where they overlap, and when to run both.
These two get compared because both now pitch agencies on AI search. They are built from opposite ends. Rankability started as a content optimizer and added tracking. Promptwatch started with AI answer monitoring and built outward into crawler logs, traffic and content. Which one fits depends on what your client actually pays you for.

The short version
If the deliverable is pages and rankings, with AI answers reported alongside, Rankability is the better fit. If the deliverable is AI visibility itself, and you have to explain and prove it, Promptwatch is.
Tracking and prompts
Rankability tracks saved queries daily on up to 11 platforms: ChatGPT, Google AI Mode, Google AI Overviews, Claude, Perplexity, Gemini, Grok, Microsoft Copilot, Brave AI, DeepSeek and Meta AI. That's every plan, including the $97 Starter. The limit is the query count: 100, 300 or 500, shared by all clients.
Promptwatch monitors ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, Google AI Mode, Copilot, Gemini, Perplexity, Amazon Alexa and Meta AI through their real interfaces, and Claude, DeepSeek, Mistral and Grok through their APIs. Brave AI isn't on its list. Its agency plans have unlimited prompts and cap responses instead (10,000 on Kick-off, 25,000 on Growth, 65,000 on Scale).
The bigger difference is prompt research. Promptwatch attaches search volumes, difficulty scores and per-model query fan-outs to prompts, and Prompt Explorer suggests new ones from Search Console, ranking keywords or People Also Ask. Rankability doesn't publish prompt volumes or fan-outs. With a small shared pool, knowing which questions are worth a slot matters.
Citations, crawlers and traffic
Both report mentions, cited pages and sentiment. Promptwatch goes further on citations: Page Tracker for specific URLs, offsite mentions without a link, separate Reddit, YouTube and LinkedIn reports, and Citation Trends showing when a page was first cited, how long it took to ramp up and how fast it decays.
Crawlers are where the products split hardest. Rankability's Site Auditor checks AI crawler access from robots.txt and says plainly that this does not prove a platform cited the page. Promptwatch's Agent Analytics logs real, IP-verified hits from GPTBot, OAI-SearchBot, ChatGPT-User, ClaudeBot, PerplexityBot and Meta's crawlers, with a citation rate per page and error explanations. Logs are on Professional ($245/mo) and every agency plan.
On traffic, Rankability reports can pull in connected Search Console and Analytics data. Promptwatch runs its own visitor analytics through a script, GTM template or WordPress plugin, attributing AI-referred sessions to conversions, and 360 Insights joins crawls, citation clicks and AI visits per page.
Content
Rankability wins here for most agencies. Every plan includes content projects (20, 80 or 160 a month), and Automate schedules drafts from approved topics to Projects, WordPress, Webflow or a GitHub pull request, with nothing published by default. Promptwatch's automated Content Agent is on Business ($579/mo) and Enterprise only; its agency plans don't include it. Professional includes five AEO articles a month.
Classic SEO and local
Rankability's weekly Google rank tracking, Local Pack grid scans, backlink monitoring and GBP audits have no direct counterpart in Promptwatch's published feature list. Promptwatch's local angle is about AI answers instead: on Business, Agency Scale and Enterprise, local GEO targeting pins a monitor to exact coordinates (20 m to 5 km) so ChatGPT and Google's AI surfaces answer as if asked from that spot. A Local Pack grid measures Google's map rankings; it doesn't tell you what ChatGPT says to someone standing in that neighborhood.
Agency plumbing
Rankability gives unlimited seats and client workspaces, branded reports, client approvals, a read-only portal and a lead generator. Promptwatch agency plans give unlimited projects and pitch projects, 10 seats, custom reports and a Looker Studio connector, and it lists a white-label workspace and client portal for agencies. Both offer API and MCP access.
The "use both" pattern
An agency that likes Rankability's content workflow doesn't have to give it up. Keep Rankability for briefs, drafts, refreshes and Google rankings. Run Promptwatch as the measurement layer on the same clients. When a Rankability draft ships, Agent Analytics shows whether GPTBot and PerplexityBot fetched it, Citation Trends shows whether and when it started getting cited, and visitor analytics shows what those visits converted to. That closes the loop Rankability leaves open, and it turns a monthly report from "you were mentioned" into "this page earned these conversions."
Verdict
Rankability for content-led SEO agencies that want AI answers in the same workspace. Promptwatch when AI visibility is the deliverable and you need to show why a page is or isn't cited and what it's worth. For agencies, Kick-off ($199/mo) and Growth ($399/mo) both come with a 7-day trial on monthly billing.
